The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame unveiled its Hoop Hall awards watch lists over the course of the this week.
They began on Monday, Oct. 24., with the 20 player watch list for the Bob Cousy award, given to the nation's top point guard at the end of each season. Duke's junior captain Jeremy Roach was one of the 20 players recognized on the watch list. No Blue Devil has ever won the Cousy award.
Freshman Tyrese Proctor was named to the watch list for shooting guard of the year: the Jerry West award. In 2019, Duke's R.J. Barrett was the first and only Blue Devil to ever take home the award (the award was conceived in 2015).
Likewise freshman Dariq Whitehead was named to the Julius Erving award watchlist for small forward of the year, an award that was won last season by Duke's Wendell Moore Jr.
Freshman Kyle Filipowski appeared on the watchlist for the Karl Malone award for power forward of the year. The award was won once by a Blue Devil—Zion Williamson in 2019.
Finally, today freshman Dereck Lively II became the fifth Blue Devil (one at each position) to be named to one of these watch lists. Lively was recognized for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar award for center of the year. No Blue Devil has ever one this award before.
Three Blue Devils were recognized for similar watch lists on the women's team as well. Senior Celeste Taylor was named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale award watchlist for shooting guard of the year. Elizabeth Balogun appeared on the list for small forward of the year: the Cheryl Miller award. And finally, Kennedy Brown appeared on the list for center of the year: the Lisa Leslie award.
