Early this month it was announced that the Sacramento Kings would be signing former Blue Devil DJ Steward to a 1-year deal, partially-guaranteed. Alberto De Roa made the terms of that deal available on his NBA Salary tracker. The deal included a guaranteed $50K that Steward will collect.
Tuesday, the league announced that Sacramento had waived Steward. Now a free-agent again, it is thought that the $50K guaranteed deal was incentive for the nearly 21-year-old will sign back with the Kings G-League affiliate Stockton Kings, where he spent his rookie season.
Despite going undrafted after just one season in the NBA, Steward refuses to give up on his NBA dream. The young guard continues to keep spirits high as he bets on himself.
Wednesday, it was announced that the Phoenix Suns would be signing former Blue Devil Frank Jackson to a non-guaranteed deal. The combo guard averaged over 10 PPG last season for the Pistons before being waived in the off season. A puzzlingly long wait in free agency led Jackson to Phoenix where he will compete for a spot on the 15 man roster in his sixth year in the league.
Similar news came Wednesday for former Blue Devil Marques Bolden, who signed a non-guaranteed deal with the Milwaukee Bucks; presumably an Exhibit 10 training camp deal. Bolden spent time with the Cavaliers on a two-way deal in 2020-2021, but has spent much of his career in the G-League since declaring for the draft in 2019.
Bolden notably dominated for the Indonesian national team at the FIBA Asia Cup this summer, finishing top three in the tournament in both points and blocks.
Early Wednesday afternoon, the Sacramento Kings made their signing of NBA veteran guard and two time NBA Champion Quinn Cook official. The terms of the deal were not announced, although the deal is not expected to be fully guaranteed. Cook will compete for one of the final remaining spots as he enters his eighth season as a pro.
