PREVIEW: Rematch vs. Wake Forest

By: Ben McCormick

January 31, 2023

For the first time this season, Duke will get a stab at a rematch with a team that previously handed them a loss. The Blue Devils fell at Wake Forest by 11 points on Dec. 20 as they were without the services of Dereck Lively II and Dariq Whitehead.

Duke will likely still be without Whitehead whose status has been unclear since suffering a lower leg injury at Virginia Tech on Jan. 23.

Coming off a dominant 43-point win, the second highest margin of victory in a conference road game for Duke all-time, the Blue Devils look to capitalize in their rematch with the Demon Deacons ahead of a big rivalry matchup on Saturday Feb. 4 vs. North Carolina.

The Demon Deacons are led in scoring by first-team All-ACC candidate Tyree Appleby, who leads the ACC in assists and is top five in scoring.

Wake has lost its last three games, including its latest at home by just two points to NC State. Despite its recent falls, Wake is still considered to be a team on the bubble hungry for big resume building wins.
