Week 5 AP Poll: Duke rises two spots to No. 15

December 5, 2022

After notching its first top-25 win of the season over No. 25 Ohio State on Wednesday, Duke moved up two spots in this week's AP Poll to No. 15.

Duke's rise was less than expected following notable losses to a handful of teams ranked ahead of the Blue Devils last week. Duke passed Gonzaga, Creighton, and Illinois after losses last week. However, because they were jumped by undefeated Maryland, the Blue Devils landed at No. 15 this week.

Duke is only one of two ACC teams ranked this week, the other is No. 3 Virginia. UNC fell out of the top-25 after losing two games last week to Indiana and Virginia Tech, the latest of their four consecutive losses. The Tar Heels are the first preseason No. 1 to exit the top-25 before January in the history of the AP Top 25.

Iowa, Duke's opponent on Tuesday, fell just shy of No. 25 by eleven votes as Ohio State maintained its ranking despite the loss to Duke.
