The Duke men's basketball team rose one spot in this week's AP Top 25 to No. 16 after deafeating Florida State on New Year's Eve.

Virginia rose to No. 11 and Miami to No. 12 after wins in week 8, but North Carolina fell out of the top-25 once again after a loss to Pittsburgh. Xavier, whom Duke beat earlier in the season, rose to No. 18 after defeating previously ranked No. 2 UConn. Another team the Blue Devils defeated re-emerged in the top-25, Ohio State at No. 24.

For the first time this season, the Duke women's basketball team appeared in the AP Top 25. The Blue Devils debuted at No. 19 after deafeating previously ranked No. 6 NC State and Louisville in a big week for Kara Lawson's team. Duke, now 13-1, sits atop the ACC with the best overall record and conference record (3-0). Despite not being ranked sooner, No. 19 still seems a little low for a team ranked No. 8 in the NET rankings, No. 2 in scoring defense, and with only a single loss which came to No. 5 UConn. Still, the Blue Devils are making progress and finally starting to turn heads.

As for the rest of the ACC, Notre Dame was the only ranked team not to suffer a loss in week 8. The Fighting Irish rose to No. 4 this week. Virginia Tech fell to No. 9 after losing to Clemson and defeating North Carolina. NC State dropped to No. 10 after losing to Duke and defeating Syracuse. And finally, North Carolina fell nine spots to No. 22 after dropping twice last week to Va. Tech and Florida State.

When do they play this week?

The men's team plays at NC State on Wednesday Jan. 4 and then at Boston College on Saturday Jan. 7.

The women's team plays at Wake Forest on Thursday Jan. 5.
